DOGNAPPING |
| |
|
| |
With incidents of “Dognapping” on the increase - please make
sure that you keep your dog safe. Only leave your dog alone in
the back garden if your garden fence is at least 6 feet tall and
any gates are securely locked. Don’t leave your dog tied up
outside of shops. Don’t leave your dog left unattended in your
car. When exercising your dog don’t take the same route
everyday. Don’t share your dog’s personal details with
strangers. And use an extendable lead if your dog’s recall is
poor. Make sure your dog is tagged and micro chipped, consider
tattooing your dog and keep lots of photos of your dog. If your
dog goes missing and you think it may have been stolen then
please ring the police immediately. If you have any information
about criminal activity please phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555
111. |

DISTRACTION BURGLARIES |
| |
|
| |
In recent weeks we have seen an increase in the amount of
Distraction Burglaries in the Frome area. These are burglaries
where the victims who are usually elderly people are conned into
letting someone into their homes and then once inside they
distract the victim and steal money or valuables. Distraction
burglars or bogus callers as they are sometimes known are
despicable People, who will say anything to get into the
victim’s home. If you have an elderly neighbour or relative
please make sure they know what to do when someone calls on them
unannounced. Tell them to firstly check that their backdoor is
locked. Then put their door chain or bar on their front door and
look through a spy hole or window to see who it is. Then they
should check the caller’s details and only let them in if they
are absolutely sure that they are genuine. If they have any
doubts they should keep them out and phone the Police
immediately. If you have any information about criminal activity
please phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. |

SATELLITE NAVIGATION CAR CRIME |
| |
|
| |
With satellite navigation equipment becoming more popular
with motorists, it is also becoming more popular with criminals.
Consequently, we are seeing an increase in the amount of cars
being broken into for these items. Where it is portable, keep it
safe by taking it, together with the support cradle and suction
pads, with you when you leave your car, and remember to wipe
away any suction pad marks left on the windscreen or dashboard,
as thieves will look out for these. Don’t leave the equipment in
the glove compartment, as thieves will usually check there
first. Don’t leave anything on display in your car. Thieves are
opportunists and it only takes them seconds to break into your
car. Remember to lock the doors and close the windows when you
leave your car for any length of time. And if you have any
information about criminal activity then please ring
Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. |

SHED SECURITY |
| |
|
| |
In recent weeks we have seen a large increase in the number
of burglaries to sheds in and around the Frome area so please
take a look at your own shed security. Replace standard hinges
with strap hinges and secure them with coach bolts. A hasp and
staple fitted with a close shackle padlock and secured with
coach bolts is the most effective way of securing the door. To
strengthen the coach bolts supplement them with a metal backing
plate so that the bolts cannot be wrenched through the shed door
or wall. Fit a window grille and a curtain to stop a thief
seeing if you have anything worth stealing. Consider fitting a
battery operated shed alarm. Chain tools, cycles and other
valuable equipment together using a high security chain or cable
and a good quality padlock. And visibly mark your tools and
equipment with your postcode and house number. If you have any
information about criminal activity phone Crimestoppers on 0800
